** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Cut the Color 1  3-1/2" x 7" strip into two 3-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 1  3-7/8  x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Cut the Color 1  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them once on both diagonals to make eight quarter square triangles. (You only need six for one block)

 

Now cut the Color 2  3-7/8  x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Then cut the Color 2  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them once on both diagonals to make eight quarter square triangles. (You only need six for one block)

 

 

Sew the half square triangles right sides together using a scant 1/4" seam. Press to darker side. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed. Make four units like this...

 

 

Sew the quarter square triangles right sides together in pairs using a scant 1/4" seam. Press to dark side.  Join the pairs to make a quarter square. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed. Make three units like this...
