** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block**

First cut out your leaf   from a piece of green fabric that should measure about 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".You can add more leaves if you choose to! ...

Then freehand four petals, that are roughly heart shaped. I suggest a white on white for the petals, or perhaps a white on off-white! The largest petal I used measures not quite 3" long x 4" wide. Remember to cut these, and the leaf, slightly larger than you want, to allow for turning under the edges , about 1/8-1/4" larger! ...

Find the center of your 8" base block. Place the left-hand petal so that the point is in the center. Pin in place. I suggest laying on all your other petals at this point , so you can see where you want your leaf! (Take them back off though!) Pin the leaf in place. Applique down your left petal and the leaf, using tiny stitches ,and thread that matches your petal and leaf...

Position the second petal so that its point touches the point of the first petal, and it slightly overlaps the leaf. Pin, and then applique down, using matching thread...on to Page 2!
