** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Cut the Color 3  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares...

Cut the Color 3  4-1/2" x 13" strip into two 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Cut the Color 3  6-1/2" x 13" strip into two 6-1/2" squares...

Sewing with a scant 1/4" seam allowance now and throughout the block-making, use the eight Color 3  2-1/2" squares and the one Color 2  2-1/2" square to sew one of the nine patch units shown at left. This should measure 6-1/2"...

Now sew together a Color 1 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strip right sides together along one long edge. Press seam to darker side. Bisect this at 2-1/2" intervals to get four pieced units...

Next sew together a Color 1 and a Color 2   2-1/2" x  20" strip right sides together along one long edge. Press seam to darker side. Bisect this at 2-1/2" intervals to get eight pieced units. Now flip alternate units and sew pairs together to form four Four Patch units.

Sew a Color 1/Color 3 pieced unit from the step above to the left edge of each four patch unit to make four Unit A's. These should measure 4-1/2" x 6-1/2"... on to Page 2!
