** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by using the larger template provided to cut eight trapezoids from the Color 2  3-1/2" x 17" strip, noting that half need to be cut in reverse. Mark and cut the Color 2  1-7/8" x 7-1/2" strip into four 1-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal t make eight half square triangles...

 

 

Now using the smaller template cut eight more trapezoids from the Color 3  3-1/2" x 13" strip, again noting that half are cut in reverse...

 

 

Sew together the two Color 3 and one Color 1  1-1/2" x 6" strips as shown at left, using scant 1/4" seam allowances. press to the darker side. Mark and cut this at 1-1/2" intervals to make four pieced units... 

 

 

To sew the block's four corners, sew a smaller trap right sides together to the short side of the larger trap. Add a Color 2 quarter square triangle to the other side of the shorter trap. Press seams to darker side. Make four units like the one shown at top left, and four more in reverse. Join each pieced triangle with a reverse pieced triangle, pressing seam to one side. Square these off to measure 3-1/2" square if needed...
