** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Cut the Colors 1, 2, 3 + 4  2-1/2" x 20" strips into eight 2-1/2" squares of each...

Now cut the Color 5  4-1/2" x 40-1/2" strip into nine 4-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 5  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 5  7-1/2" x 18" strip into twelve 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Now, to make the flying geese units, place a Color 1 small square right sides together atop a Color 5 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the triangle. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make all of the geese in the same manner, one more using Color 1, and then two of each color arrangement shown at lower left...

 

In the same manner as making the flying geese units above line up a Color 1 square right sides together and outer edges aligned with a Color 5  4-1/2" square. Draw the diagonal lines on the back of the small square and sew on the line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the triangle. Now add a Color 2 square on the opposing corner. Then add another Color 1 square on the lower left and another Color 2 square on the upper right. In the same manner make one each of the three units shown at lower left...on to Page 2!
