** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 2 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 5" strips into two 2-1/2" squares of each...

Now sew a Color 2 and Color 3  1-1/2" x 13" strip right sides together along one long edge using a scant 1/4" seam. Press to dark side. Cut this into four 2-1/2" long sections and two 1-1/2" long sections...

Sew together two Color 3 and one Color 1  1-1/2" x 12" strips as shown at left and cut into eight 1-1/2" sections...

Then sew together two Color 1 and one Color 3  1-1/2" x 32" strips as shown at left. Cut this into four 6-1/2" sections and four 1-1/2" sections...

Sew the two Color 2/Color 3  1-1/2" sections together to make one four patch...

Now piece the block's center by laying out the small four patch we just made, the Color 2 and Color 3 squares, and the four Color 2/Color 3  2-1/2" sections. Sew these together...

Sew the Color 1/Color 3  1-1/2" sections together to make a nine patch unit as shown at left. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
