** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

To speed piece the half squares, stack like sized fabric strips, right sides together in the following groups: 15-1/2" Color 1 and Color 2 strips,  7-3/4" Color 3 and Color 2 strips,  and 7-3/4" Color 4 and Color 2 strips. On the backs of the top strips, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square lines. Mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left as well. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the 3-7/8" square lines. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight Color 1/Color 2 half squares, and four each of the Color 3/Color 2  and  Color 4/Color 2 half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

Referring to the diagram at left sew four Color 1/Color 2 half squares together. Make two rows like this....

Now sew a Color 3/Color 2 half square to a Color4/Color 2 half square. Add another Color 3/Color 2 half square, and then add another Color 4/Color 2 half square. Make two rows like this...on to Page 2!
