** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 1   10" x 26" rectangle into sixteen 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2   10" x 20" rectangle into thirty-two 2-1/2" squares...

Next mark and cut the Color 3   2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 4  2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

To make the striped squares within the block, place a Color 2 small square right sides together atop one end of a Color 1 rectangle. On the back of the square mark the diagonal, and sew on this marked line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the rectangle. repeat this with another small square on the other end. Make sixteen of these units...

Sew a Color 3 rectangle to the bottom of a Color1/Color 2 unit, using as always a SCANT 1/4" seam, and then add another Color 1/Color 2 unit to the bottom of that. Make four units like this, and four more using a Color 4 rectangle instead...on to Page 2!
