Fat Quarters should be ample!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try an Arizona Block! You will need to print out one copy of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Note that regular piecing templates are provided for the rectangles, center corner triangles and trapezoids as well. Use of the rect. and tri. templates is optional.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  1-1/2" x 8" strip into two 1-1/2" x 4" rectangles. Then mark and cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 6" strip into two 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 8" strip into two 1-1/2" x 4" rectangles. Then mark and cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 6" strip into two 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles...

Using the template provided cut eight Color 4 trapezoids from the 1-1/2" x 15" strip...

Then mark and cut the Color 5  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip into two 2-7/8" squares. Stack these squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Now it's time to paper piece those PP units!

Then sew a trapezoid on each side of one of the smaller square-in-square units as shown at left. Make four units like this...

Sew each of the trapezoid units to the sides of the center  large square in square unit and press seams out towards the trap units...

Then sew a Color 5 half square triangle to each corner to complete the center of the block. Press seams towards the triangles...on to Page 2!
