** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Using the templates provided cut four larger squares and four small triangles from the Color 1  5-1/2" x 10-1/2" rectangle...

Then, using the templates provided cut four larger trapezoids and four small trapezoids from the Color 2  5-1/2" x 23" rectangle...

Using the templates provided cut five larger squares and four small squares from the Color 3  5-1/2" x 13-1/2" rectangle...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  2-3/8" x 14-1/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-3/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 2-3/8" square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seams towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2" . Repeat this with one more Col 1/Col 3 strip set to get twelve more...

Sew a  Color 1 triangle right sides together to the bottom of a Color 2 short trapezoid using a scant 1/4" seam. Press to darker side. Add a longer Color 2 trap to the left of that. Make two units like this and two in reverse, looking at the block picture for proper piece orientation if needed...
