Woven Squares - Page 2

To make the upper left square unit, sew a Color 1 rectangle right sides together to the left edge of a Color 9 square. Use a scant 1/4" seam now and throughout the block. Start sewing at the top and sew to a point 1/2" from the edge of the SQUARE. Backstitch here to secure...
Finger press seam away from center (finger press each seam as you add rectangles).  Now add another Color 1 rectangle to the top, a Color 7 rectangle to the right, and a Color 6 rectangle on the bottom.  Now fold the left side of the block so that right sides are matching, and stitch from
that stopping point to the edge of the block.  Label this UPPER LEFT..

Make the upper right square unit following the same procedure as above,
using the Color numbers shown at left.  Label this UPPER RIGHT..
Do this again for the bottom left square unit. Label this BOTTOM LEFT...
And again for the bottom right square unit. Label this BOTTOM RIGHT...

Now sew a strip that will be the block's outer bottom strip. This uses two Color 2  1-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles, and squares of Color 8 and Color 2. Label this OUTER BOTTOM...
Then sew a strip that will be the block's Vertical center strip. This uses rectangles of Color 8, and squares of Color 1 and Color 3. Label this VERTICAL CENTER...
