** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

Referring to the supplies list,
cut the strips and squares needed. Cut the Color 3 2-1/2"
x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Colors 1 &
2 2-1/2" x 20" strips into eight 2-1/2" squares of each. Cut the Color 3 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares... |

Now cut each of the Colors 1, 2
and 3 4-7/8"squares in half once on the diagonal to make
half square triangles... |

Sew the half square triangles
right sides together to make two each of the units shown at left,
using the standard scant 1/4" seam. Press seams towards the
darker fabric. Trim these back to be 4-1/2" squares if
needed... |

Sew the smaller squares
together, again using a scant 1/4" seam, to make two of each of
the four patch units shown at left, pressing seams towards the
darker fabric. Trim these back to be 4-1/2" squares if
needed... |

With the remaining small squares
make the center four patch as shown at left. Trim this back to be
a 4-1/2" square if needed...
