** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 3  1-1/2" x 18" strip into four 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" strips. Cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 14" strip into four 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" strips...

Now cut the Color 4 and Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips into two 3-7/8" squares each. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each...

Sew each Color 2 half square triangle right sides together to a Color 4 half square triangle using a scant 1/4" seam.(Scant1/4" seam used now and throughout the project!) Press seam to darker side. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

Next sew the Color 3  1-1/2" x 10" strip to the top of the Color 1  3-1/2" x 10" rectangle. Press seam to the darker side. Cut this into four units, each 2-1/2" wide...

Now make two of each of the units shown at left, by sewing Color 3  1-1/2" x 3-1/2" strips to the right of the half squares (top) ...or the left of the half squares (bottom). * Pay attention to the orientation of the half squares! :o) Press seams towards the strips...

Next, sew a Color 2  1-1/2" x 4-1/2" strip to the bottom of each of the half square units we made in the step above. Press seams towards the bottom strips...on to Page 2!
