** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four  2-1/2" squares. Use the rectangle template to cut two rectangles from the Color 1  2-1/4" x 7" strip. Mark and cut the Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack these 2-7/8" squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles. Use the trapezoid template to cut two traps from the Color 1  2" x 11" strip, adding seam allowances to that unit as you cut...

Use the square template to cut one square from the Color 2  4" square. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 12" strip into eight 1-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 2  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strip into six 2-7/8" squares. Stack these 2-7/8" squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make twelve half square triangles...

Using a 1/4" seam, sew together Color 1 and Color 2 half square triangles to make eight half squares. Press these to darker side. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Sew two Color 2 half square triangles to the top of the two trapezoids, again using a 1/4" seam, and pressing to the dark sides...

Piece the block's center diagonal unit by sewing the two Color 1 rectangles to opposing sides of the center square. Add the remaining two Color 2  2-7/8" half square triangles to the other sides of the rectangles...on to Page 2!
