** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 1  2-7/8" square in half once on the diagonal to make two half square triangles...

Using the template provided cut two trapezoids from the Color 3  5-1/4" x 8-1/4" rectangle...

Now cut the Color 4  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip into two 2-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 2 and Color 4  2-7/8" x 8-5/8" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you six half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Find the half way point of the short slanted sides of the trapezoids, and of the Color 1 half square triangles. Lightly Crease. Matching these half way points, sew a triangle to each trap. Make two units like this. Press seams towards triangles...

Then sew Color 4 half square triangles to the left and top of two half square units. Press seams towards the triangles. Add a trap unit to each, pressing seams towards traps...on to Page 2!
