** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by stacking the Color 1 and Color  3  5-1/8" x 10-1/4" strips. Cut into two 5-1/8" squares of each. Stack the resulting squares and cut once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each...

Next cut the Color 2 and Color 4  4-1/4" squares in half on both diagonals to get four quarter square triangles of each...

Now, using the template provided above, cut four trapezoids from a 2-5/8" x 34" strip of Color 5...

Using the standard scant 1/4" seam allowance, sew Color 1 and 3 half square triangles together to make four half squares. Press to the darker side. Trim to measure 4-3/4" if needed. Sew the four together to make the block's center pinwheel...

To make the block's corner units, sew Color 2 and Color 4 quarter square triangles together as shown at far left. Press seams to darker side. Make four units like this. To each of these units, sew a Color 5 trapezoid, matching the center point of the trap edge to the seam line of the triangles unit. Make four corner units in this manner...on to Page 2!
