** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by  printing off the side unit templates (A). Trace each of these carefully onto another sheet of paper or template plastic, and add the 1/4" seam allowances to all sides of each.

Cut out these new templates and use the side triangle templates to cut eight side triangles as shown at left from the Color 2 10" x 20" rectangle...

Use the center triangle template to cut out four center triangles as shown at left from the Color 1  9" x 18" rectangle..

Next, use a 1/4 " seam allowance to sew the two Color 1 and one Color 2  2-1/2" x 20"  strips together as shown at left. Press seams to the darker side and sub cut at 2-1/2" intervals into eight pieced units...

Sew the two Color 2 and one Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strips together as shown at left and sub cut at 2-1/2" intervals into four pieced units...

Join these units as shown at left to make a total of four Nine Patch units. These should measure 6-1/2"...

Now sew the side triangle units to opposing long sides of the center triangles. (This is best accomplished by finding and matching up the center points of the sides being sewn together. The long ends of the side triangles will extend beyond the center triangle, and they are supposed to.) Press seams to darker sides. This unit should measure 4-1/2" x 6-1/2". Trim off the little points beyond that...  on to Page 2!
