This makes a 12" block and is part paper piecing, part regular piecing!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Star Patch! You will need to print out two copies of the template A page and one of the B page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares...

Cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strips into eight 2-1/2" squares...

1/4" seams are used throughout this project.

Sew together the Color 2 and Color 3  1-1/2" x 10" strips right sides together along one long edge. Press to dark side. Cut apart in 2-1/2" increments to make four pieced SIDE units from each strip set...(only one strip set shown here)

Now paper piece the units for your 54/40 or Fight Stars. Lay out those units, plus the Color 3 and Color 2 squares and make two of the block shown at left...

Next paper piece the units for the alternating stars. Lay out those units, plus the Color 3/ Color 2 side units and make two of the block shown at left... now... on to Page 2!
