** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut the Color 1  4-1/2" x 22-1/2" strip into five 4-1/2" squares...

Next cut the Color 2  5" x 20" strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color 3  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares...

Stack one of the Color 2 small squares atop the lower left corner, right sides together and with edges aligned. Mark the diagonal, and sew ON this marked line. Trim off excess seam allowance, and press the remainder towards the small triangle. Continue adding small squares all around the base square. Make four of these...

 

Then make your block, by first making rows, then by sewing the rows together! Alternate pressing directions by row when sewing the rows together!
