** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strips into eight 2-1/2" squares of each...

Next, mark and cut the Color 1  5" x 17" strip into four 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles...

Now speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1/Color 2  2-7/8" x  11-1/2" strips right sides together and edges aligned...and the Color 1/Color 3  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips right sides together and edges aligned. On the back of the top strips lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines. Mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the marked diagonals and on the square lines. Press seams to darker side. These should measure 2-1/2"...

To make the top and side units, place a Color 2  2-1/2" square on each end of a Color 1 rectangle, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the square lightly draw the diagonal in the directions show, Sew ON this marked diagonal. Trim off the excess seam allowance, and press the remainder towards the outer triangle. Make four units like this...

Piece the center unit from the half squares as shown at left, using as always, 1/4" seams...on to Page 2!
