Then sew two of the units shown at left, also comprised of the same components, but note the direction of the half squares and small triangle...

Now sew four half squares together as shown at left, and add a Color 2 small triangle to the end. Make two units like this...

Then sew another two units as shown at left...

Sew each of the shorter half square units to the side of a Color 2 large triangle. You may want to lay them out first before you sew, to see that you will have them all heading in the right direction. Press seam allowance towards the newly added strips...

To the outside of the four units you just made, sew the longer half square units. Press seam allowance towards the large triangles...

Now sew the four corners to the checkerboard center, as shown at left. I only show one example of that here...and that's the block!
