** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

 

 

Cut the Color 1 and Color 2  4-7/8" squares in half once to make two half square triangles of each. Cut the Color1, 2, 3 and 4  5-1/4" squares in half on BOTH diagonals to make four quarter square triangles of each. (You only need to of each color for each block) 

 

 

Sew a Color 1 and Color 3 quarter square triangle right sides together using the standard 1/4" seam allowance. Press seam to darker side. Add a Color 1 half square triangle and press seam towards the half square triangle. Make two of these, and two more using Color 2 and Color 4 quarter squares triangles with Color 2 half square triangles added. These should measure 4-1/2" ...

 

 

Now arrange your four units as shown at left. Sew two horizontal rows, then join those rows and you are all done!
