It's a 12" block!

This was made as a companion block to go with the Pink Ribbon Block ...but stands alone as a nice block as well, or works well as a spacer between other blocks! :o)

Please abide by the Terms and Conditions of use! :o)

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 1  8" x 24" rectangle into forty-eight 2" squares...

Then cut twenty-four random rectangles 2" x 3-1/2". These can be all one color, or an assortment, and are shown here in Pinks to go with the Pink Ribbon Quilt...

Sew a "flying geese" unit out of each rectangle and two Color 1 squares. To do this, place a Color 1 square lined up with one end of a Calico rectangle, right sides together. On the back of the small square, lightly draw the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the darker fabric. Repeat this with another small square on the other end, drawing the diagonal in the opposite direction. You can sew these small snip offs together to make some teeny half squares for a mini project! Make all twenty four geese in this same manner...

Now stack the Color 1 and Color 2  7-1/4" squares, right sides together. On the back of the top square, lightly draw the diagonal. Sew 1/4" on both sides of the drawn line, then cut apart ON the drawn line. Do not press seam allowances at this point...

Cut each of the two resultant triangles once more on the opposite diagonal. This will give you four quarter triangles, only one of which is shown at left...on to Page 2!
