This makes an 8" block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by cutting the Color 1  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Now cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares...

 

Next  cut the Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Cut one of the Color 2  2-1/2" x 5" strips into two 2-1/2" squares...

 

To sew the block's corner units sew pairs of Color 1 and Color 2 half square triangles right sides together using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press seam to the darker side. Now place a Color 1 small square right sides together atop the Color 2 side of this half square, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the small corner triangle. These should measure 3-1/2" square. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
