This makes a 16" block and is a fairly advanced paper piecing pattern!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Shattered Star! You will need to print out four copies of each template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You will also need one 4-1/2" center black square. Fat Quarters will be fine!

After all units are paper pieced, join pairs of corner triangle units to make the four corner squares, and join pairs of side rectangle units to make the four side units.  When this is done, sew three horizontal rows, with the extra 4-1/2" square of black as the block's center. Sew the rows together and the block is complete!

Here, on its side, is a quilt of four blocks by five with a solid and then a pieced border.

Happy Quilting!
