Now sew four of the corner units shown at left by: A) Sewing a square to the end of four rectangle units...and B) Sewing the other rectangle units to the left sides of the Four Patch units. Join these to finish each corner unit....

 

To make the flying geese units, place a Color 1 small square right sides together atop a Color 2 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make twelve Flying Geese units in the same manner...

 

 

Sew three Flying Geese Units together. Make four of these units...

 

To make the block's center Place a Color 1  2-1/2" square right sides together against the top left corner of the Color 2  4-1/2" square. As you did making the Flying Geese, draw in the diagonal on the back of the square and stitch on the drawn line. Cut off the excess and press the remainder towards the corner. Do the same with another square on the opposite corner, and then on the two adjacent corners...

 

Now lay out all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows. pressing seams in alternating directions by row. Join the rows and your block is complete!...on to Page 3!
