The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Schoenrock Cross block! You will need to print out four copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You also need five 2-1/2" white squares and four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" dark blue rectangles. Fat quarters should be plenty!

Sew one white square to one end of each blue rectangle. Press seams to darker side. Do your paper piecing. Join pairs of PP'd triangles to make each corner square for the block. Now lay out all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows. Join those rows and your block is complete!

Here's a 4 block by 5 block quilt , with a pieced border!
