**Preparing the Pieces & Sewing the Block**

First cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 28" strip into eight 3-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color 1  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Then speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 3  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip atop the Color 2 strip of the same size, right sides together. Mark the diagonals in the direction shown, and mark the 3-7/8" square lines as well. Starting at the upper left corner, sew in one continuous seam, 1/4" away from the marked line to the upper right corner. Pivot and sew back on the other side of the marked line. Cut apart ON the marked line, and on the square lines as well. Press seams towards darker fabrics. This will give you four half squares...

Now just piece the block as shown at left...of course using those scant 1/4" seams, and alternating pressing directions by row! Nice and easy!! ...on to Page 2!
