This makes a 13-1/2" block!!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut the Color 1  2" x 8" strip into four 2" squares...

Then cut the Color 2  4" x 14" strip into eight 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

 

Next sew the Color 1 and Color 3  2" x 16" strips, right sides together, along one long edge. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Mark and cut this two strip unit at 2" intervals, making eight two color rectangles. Invert every other rectangle, and sew to another to make a total of four four patch units...

 

To one side of each four patch unit, sew a Color 2  2" x 3-1/2" rectangle. Press seam allowances towards the four patch units. Sew a Color 1  2" square to one end of each remaining Color 2   2" x 3-1/2" rectangle. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Sew one of these small square/rectangle units to the top of the four four patch /rectangle units as shown at left. Press seam allowances towards the outer rectangle/small square units...

Now sew the Color 2  2" x 20" strip to the Color 3  3-1/2" x 20" strips, right sides together, along one long edge. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Mark and cut this two color unit at 5" intervals...
