** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color 2  3" x 10" strip into eight 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles...

 

Next sew the Color 1 and Color 3  1-1/2"x 12" strips, right sides together, along one long edge. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Mark and cut this two strip unit at 1-1/2" intervals, making eight two color rectangle units. Invert every other rectangle, and sew to another to make a total of four 4-patch units...

 

To one side of each four patch unit, sew a Color 2  1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangle, in the orientation shown at left. Press seam allowances towards the four patch units. Sew a Color 1  1-1/2" square to one end of each remaining Color 2   1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangle. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Sew one of these small square/rectangle units to the top of the four 4-patch /rectangle units as shown at left. Press seam allowances towards the outer rectangle/small square units...

Now sew the Color 2  1-1/2" x 14" strip to the Color 3  2-1/2" x 14" strips, right sides together, along one long edge. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Mark and cut this two color unit at 3-1/2" intervals...
