This makes a 12" block and is partly paper pieced, part regular piecing!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Pins in Motion block! You will need to print out two copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square line. This will give you four large half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 3-1/2". Repeat this same procedure with the Color 1 and Color 2 2-3/8" x 19" strips to make sixteen smaller half squares. These should measure 2"...

Sew the smaller half squares together to make four of the small Pinwheel squares shown at left. Make one of the larger Pinwheels squares. Use 1/4" seam allowances throughout the block making process...on to Page 2!
