** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1  2" x 25" strip into two 2" x 12-1/2"strips. Cut the Color 1  2" x 19" strip into two 2" x 9-1/2" strips. Cut the Color 1  2" x 16" strip into two 2" x 8" strips. Cut one strip 2" x 3-1/2" and one 1-1/4" x 3-1/2"...

Cut the Color 2  2" x 16" strip into eight 2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2-3/8" x 4-3/4" strip into two 2-3/8" squares. Stack those squares and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Also cut one 1-1/4" x 3-1/2" strip from Color 3...

To speed piece the half squares, stack the Color 1 and 2  2-3/8" x 14-1/4" strips right sides together and edges aligned. Mark the 2-3/8" square lines. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the diagonals. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals and on the square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Trim to 2" if needed...

Sew two Color 2 half square triangles together in the same manner. This is done to continue the visual line of the slanted line of the uppermost ribbon layer ...

In a scant 1/4" seam, sew the Color 1 and Color 3  1-1/4" x 3-1/2" strips right sides together along one long edge. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric...

Sew a Color1/Color 2 half square to each end of the above unit, pressing seam allowances towards the center. This makes Ribbon Row 1...on to Page 2!
