** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First stack and cut the Color 1 and Color 3  5-1/8" squares on the diagonal, using a rotary cutter, to make four half square triangles of each color...

Now mark and cut the 3-7/8" strips of all three colors into 3-7/8" squares, giving you four of Color 1, and two each of Colors 2 and 3...

Cut ONE square each of Colors 2 and 3 on the diagonal to make two half square triangles of each. Cut TWO of the Color 1 squares on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Speed piece the half squares for the center, by placing a Color 1 3-7/8"square atop a Color 2 3-7/8" square, right sides together and all edges aligned. Lightly mark the diagonal on the back of the top square. Sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonal, and then cut ON the marked diagonal. This will give you two Color1/Color 2 half squares. Repeat this with a Color 1 and Color 3 square. Press all seams towards the darker color. This should measure 3-1/2" ...

Now sew a Color1/Color 2 half square to a Color 1/Color 3 half square, again using a 1/4" seam. Make two of these. Sew them together along one long edge to make the center unit...on to Page 2!
