** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
|

Using the template provided cut one Color 1 square from the 6-1/2" square... |
|
|
Cut the Color 1 2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares... |

Cut the Color 2 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack and cut these once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles... |

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2 2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines.( Scant seams are called for now and throughout the block making process) Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" if needed... |

Sew the Color 1 and Color 2 1-1/2" x 18" strips right sides together along one long edge. Press seam to dark side. Cut at 4-1/2" intervals to make four pieced side units... |

Using the pieced side units and half square units sew two of each of the units shown at left...on to Page 2! |
