** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  4" x 12" strip into twelve 2" squares. Cut the Color 1  4" x 7" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

Now cut the Color 2  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip into four 2-3/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles. Cut the Color 2  4" x 8" strip into eight 2" squares. Cut the Color 2  4" x 7" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

 

 

Next, sew a small Color 2 half square triangle, right sides together, and using a 1/4" seam, to the bottom edge of a Color 1 square as shown in left illustration. Add another Color 2 small HST to the right edge of the square. Press seams towards triangles. Add a Color 2 large HST to this pieced triangle unit, pressing seam towards large HST. Make four units like this... on to Page 2!
