This makes a 12" block!

This makes a great scrap quilt, as it uses lots of different size pieces (odds and ends!) ...but this time, let's do it as a Spring or Summer quilt!

Take a nice Spring or Summer print, and pull one color from it for your colored band :o)

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block**

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  5-1/2" x 11" strip into two 5-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 3" strip into two 1-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color  2  3" x 10-1/2" strip into two 1-1/2" x 10-1/2" strips...

Next, mark and cut the Color 3  3" x 12" strips into two 1-1/2" x 12" strips. Cut a 1 1/2" square off the end of each strip...and now...

Sew the two Color 1 and two Color 3  1-1/2" squares together into a four patch square as shown at left, using scant 1/4" seams...
Then speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  5-7/8" squares right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top square, lightly mark the diagonal. Sew a scant 1/4" on each side of the marked diagonal line. Cut apart ON the marked line, to get two half squares. Press seams towards the darker side. Trim these back to 5-1/2" if needed...

Now sew a larger four patch, again using scant 1/4" seams, using the Color 1 5-1/2" squares and the half squares...
Sew one Color 1 and one Color 2  1-1/2" x 10-1/2" strip right sides together along one long edge. Press seam towards the darker strip. Sew the small four patch to the right end, pressing seam towards the strips...onto Page 2!
