** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First sew the Color 1 and Color 2  1-1/2" x 30" strips right sides together along one long edge. Press to dark side. Cut this into four 4-1/2" long sections, and eight 1-1/2" long sections...

Sew the 1-1/2" sections together in pairs as shown at left to make four Four Patch units. (Use 1/4" seams now and throughout the block making, please :o))

Now cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares...

Place the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" squares right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal. Stitch a scant 1/4" away from this drawn line on each side of it. Cut apart on the drawn line. This will give you two half squares. Press seams to the dark side and trim to measure 2-1/2" if needed...

Sew the half squares we just made and the Color 1  2-1/2" square together to form the block's center unit, as shown at left...
