** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 1  2-3/8" x 19" strip into eight 2-3/8" squares. Cut these once on the diagonal to make sixteen half square triangles. Mark and cut the Color 2  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip into four 2-3/8" squares. Cut these once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 2   2" x 8" strip into four 2" squares...
Then mark and cut the Color 2   3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...
Mark and cut the Color 3  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strip into four 3-7/8" squares. Stack and cut these once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Using the Color 1 and Color 2  half square triangles, sew four each of the two pieced triangles shown at left, using a 1/4" seam and pressing seams to the darker side...

Sew Color 1 quarter square triangles to each of the pieced triangle units we just made, again using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press towards the newly added Color 1 triangles. Then add a Color 3 half square triangle to each unit, and press seams towards the colored half. You will make four of each of the two units shown at left. These should measure 3-1/2"...

Sew the remaining Color 1 half square triangles to the right and bottom of the small Color 2 squares. Press seams towards the Color 1 triangles. Sew a Color 2 half square triangle to each of those pieced square units. These should measure 3-1/2" ...on to Page 2!
