Now sew a half square/square pair to the top of a horizontal rectangle unit, and another to the bottom. Make two units like this...

 

 

To make the blocks center, place a Color 2  2-1/2" square right sides together and edges aligned with the bottom left corner of a Color 1 4-1/2" square. On the back of the top small square lightly draw the diagonal. Stitch on this diagonal line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the larger square. Repeat this with another Color 2 small square on the opposing corner. Now repeat again on the bottom right corner, using a Color 3  2-1/2" square, and pressing the seam allowance towards the corner triangle. Make four units like this...

 

 

Sew two of the previously made units together as shown at left. Press seam allowances in opposite directions. Make two units like this...

 

Join the two units you just made. This is the block's center...

 

To each side of the center unit, attach a square/half square/rectangle unit, pressing seams towards the outer units...
