Following the same directions, make four more similar units, using the longer Color 5 rectangles. The first has a Color 3 square on the left end and a Color 2 square on the right end. The second two have Color 3 squares on each end. The fourth has Color 1 squares on each end...

Now make four flying geese units, by placing a Color 5  2-1/2" square atop the left end of a Color 4 rectangle, right sides together. Mark the diagonal on the back of the square and sew on the marked diagonal. As in the step above, cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the rectangle. Repeat with another Color 5 square on the other end...

Next sew pairs of squares as shown at left. Make two units of Color 2 and Color 3 squares. Make two units of Color 1 and Color 2 squares. Make two units of Color 1 and Color 3 squares...

Then make two strips of four squares each. Make the first from  Color3/Color 1/Color 2/Color 3 squares. Make the second from Color 2/Color1/Color3/Color2 squares...

Now piece the top and bottom center units, by sewing a flying geese unit to a pair of squares (Color 1/Color3) unit. Please note the orientation of the pairs of squares! They are inverted!...

Sew the left and right center units next. The first has a Color 2- 2 1/2" square sewn to the left, and a Color 3  2-1/2" square sewn to the right. The second has a Color 1  2-1/2" square sewn to each end...

Piece the first row by following the diagram at left. Press seam allowances in alternating directions...

Then piece the second row by following the diagram at left. Press seam allowances in alternating directions...

Now piece the third row by following the diagram at left. Press seam allowances in alternating directions...on to Page 3!
