This makes a 9" block and it's paper pieced! If you prefer, there are optional templates for Regular Piecing provided!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Lucky Star # 2 block! You will need to print out four copies of the paper piecing template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Fat quarters should be plenty!
Once your piecing is done, no matter which method you have chosen, sew two triangle units together to make each quarter-block, then join the four quarters to complete the block!

Here on its side is a 4 block x 5 row quilt with a pieced border, then a solid black border!
