** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2  2-7/8" x 23" strip into eight 2-7/8" squares. Cut each of these in half once on the diagonal to make sixteen half squares...

Next mark and cut the Color 4  5" x 10" rectangle into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 4  6-6/8" square into four 3-3/8" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 4  2-7/8" x 14-3/8" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you ten half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with a Color 3/Color 4  2-7/8" square to get two of those...on to Page 2!
