** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1   2-1/2" x 32-1/2" strip into thirteen 2-1/2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 30" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Now speed piece the half squares by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  4- 7/8" x 9- 3/4" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 4- 7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart on the square line and on the marked diagonals between the rows of stitching. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim to 4-1/2"...

Piece the Block! The top and bottom rows are made with alternating squares. The second and fourth rows are a combo of squares, rectangles and half squares, and the center row is squares and rectangles...Refer to the diagram at left for placement!
