** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  7" x 13" strip into four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Next cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Now cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Starting at left, top...sew two Color 3 and one Color 1  1-1/2" x 12" strips together along one long edge, using a 1/4" seam. Press to dark side and cut into eight 1-1/2" segments. Next sew two Color 2 and one Color 3  1-1/2" x 6" strips together in the same manner and cut into four 1-1/2" segments...

Sew the little segments we just made into nine Patch units as shown at top left. Make four units like this. Sew a Color 3  3-1/2" square to the left of each four patch...

Next, place a Color 2 square right sides together against the right hand end of a Color 1 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the square lightly draw in the diagonal and sew on this draw line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, leaving 1/4". Press the remainder towards the darker color. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
