The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try Kristen's Patchwork Square! You will need to print out one copy of each template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Fat Quarters or scraps will be plenty!
After your units are paper pieced join them as shown at left to complete the block! There doesn't need to be any rhyme nor reason to the placement of the colored squares within the sixteen patch...this looks great done as a scrappy block/quilt also...

The quilt, shown here on its side, is four blocks by five, with a pieced border and binding.
