This makes a 12" block. and comes to us from the approx. 1930's!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by speed piecing your half squares. Stack a Color 2 and a Color 3  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. ON the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square lines. Mark in the diagonals as shown at left. Sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the square lines and on the marked diagonals between the rows of stitching. This will give you eight half squares. Press seams to darker side. trim these back to measure 3-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with a Color 1 and Color 2   3-7/8" x 7-3/4" pair of strips to get four half squares in that color combination...

Now piece the block, using the half squares we just made, and the Color 1  6-1/2" square! Easy Block! :o)  ...on to Page 2!
