** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Next sew two Color 1 and two Color 2  1-1/2" x  12" strips right sides together along the long edges as shown at far left. Press seams to dark side. Mark and cut this at 1-1/2" intervals to get eight pieced strip units...
In the same manner sew together the remaining 1-1/2" x 12" strips and again cut into eight pieced units...

Make the block's side units by sewing a shorter pieced unit to the top and bottom of a Color 1 square. Add longer pieced units to the side. Make four units like this...

Now sew together one Color 1  1-1/2" x 18" strip, one Color 2  2-1/2" x 18"strip and one Color 2 1-1/2" x 18" strip as shown top left. Press seams to dark side. Mark and cut this at 4-1/2" intervals to get four pieced side units...

Lay out all the units, with the Color 1  4-1/2" square as the block's center. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing the top and bottom row seams to the outside and the middle row seam to the center. Join the rows and you've finished one Jitterbug Block!
