This makes a 16" block...We can really thank Jinny Beyer for the popularity of this pattern!  I am showing it here in all Beyer fabrics...the "jewels" and the background are each "Millennium Marbles"...the outer and inner triangles are her "Mosaic Borders".

There is also a "shop search" on her site, so you can find a store in your area that sells these fabrics...OR, you can buy them online!!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

This pattern is posted with permission from Jinny Beyer. THANK YOU JINNY! :o)

Start by cutting the Color 1  5" x 20" strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares...

Sew each Color 1 square to a 2-1/2" "jewel" square, right sides together, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Then, and this is the ONLY tricky part...PLACEMENT is everything with this one! Sew your pairs of small squares to make four patches. Square these up to be 4-1/2" if needed...
You will need  four patch squares that have: Dark Red and Med. Red, Light Red and Very Light Red (or red to fuchsia), Dark Blue and Med. Blue, Light Blue and Very Light Blue, Dark Green and Med. Green, Light Green and Very Light Green (or turq.-green),  Dark Gold and Med. Gold and Light Gold and Very Light Gold,  for a total of eight graduating shade four patch squares...

Now speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1  4-7/8" strips right sides together with a Color 3, and with a Color 2 strip of the same size. On the back of the top strips, lightly mark the diagonals, and mark the 4-7/8" square lines. Sew a scant 1/4" above the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Then turn the fabric strip and sew back a scant 1/4" on the other side of the marked diagonals. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the square lines. Press seams towards the darker fabrics. Square these up to be 4-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2!
