** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, mark and cut the Color 1  6-7/8" x 13-3/4" strip into two 6-7/8" squares. Stack these, and cut them once on the diagonal...

Now mark and cut the following Color 2 pieces...a 2-1/2" x 10" strip, cut into four 2-1/2" squares; then a 6-7/8" x 13-3/4" strip cut into two 6-7/8" squares. Stack the large squares, and cut them once on the diagonal...

Next speed piece the half squares by stacking a Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 34-1/2"" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly mark off the 2-7/8' square lines, then draw in the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut these apart on the square lines, and on the diagonals between the rows of stitching. this will give you twenty-four half squares. Press the seams towards the darker fabric. Trim to 2-1/2"...on to Page 2
