** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 3  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 1  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" square. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Then stack the Color 2 and Color 3  5-1/4" squares with all edges aligned. Cut these once on the diagonal, then, without moving them, cut them on the other diagonal as well, to get four quarter square triangles of each...

Now sew pairs of Color 2 and Color 3 quarter square triangles together as shown at left, using a SCANT 1/4" seam. Press seam to darker side. To each of these , sew a Color 1 half square triangle. Press seam towards half square triangle. Trim these back to 4-1/2" square if needed...

Sew a Color 3 rectangle to the left side of each of the previously made units, pressing seams towards the darker side... 

Next, line up the Color 2  2-1/2" square with the bottom right edge of one of the pieced units. Stitch in a scant 1/4" seam from the outer block edge in as far as half way across the square. Backstitch and snip threads...
