** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1 and Color 2  6-1/4" x 12-1/2" strips into two 6-1/4" squares of each. Stack these and cut them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles of each...

Using the template provided, cut four melon shapes from the Color 2  6" x 20" strip. Add seam allowances to each melon shape IF you will be hand appliquéing these, or want turned under edges. If you will be FUSING them to the background...no need to add seam allowances...

Sew quarter square triangles right sides together in pairs, using a scant 1/4" seam allowance. Press to dark side.  Sew pairs together to form quarter squares. Trim  to measure 5-1/2" if needed. Make four units like this...

Now either FUSE, and machine applique, or machine embroider, the melons to the background squares ...OR...pin on and needleturn applique...as shown at left...on to Page 2!
